45 Years of Speedteq

Speedteq was founded on August 28, 1981, in Phoenix, Arizona originally as BM Flow Development — and from day one, the mission has never changed: engineer solutions that perform when it matters most.

The 1980s: Born From Speed

Speedteq's earliest innovations came from pushing performance to its absolute limit — on the water, ground and in the air. In the mid 1980s, we developed the first-generation digital racing engine EFI that featured bi-directional telemetry. Soon after we developed servo electromechanical paddle-shifting used in Formula One, a breakthrough in driver control that reshaped how drivers interacted with the car.

That same era saw one of the boldest projects in Speedteq's history: the development of the world's fastest piston-powered racing aircraft, which debuted at the 1987 Reno Unlimited Air Race. Funding generated by that program became the foundation for our first-generation electronic engine control and telemetry technology — early systems for transmitting and communicating real-time performance data that made us one of the first to bring affordable digital electronics to the CART IndyCar and Formula One racing series, influencing decades of motorsports to follow.

The 1990s: Formula One, IndyCar, and Sports Marketing

Through the 1990s, Speedteq expanded its motorsports footprint with years of dedicated work in Formula One and IndyCar racing, engineering solutions for professional teams competing at the highest levels of open-wheel racing.

During this same period, we operated one of the leading sports marketing companies in the industry — until the economic fallout following the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attacks reshaped the marketing landscape and brought that chapter of the business to a close.

The 2000s: A Metallurgical Breakthrough — and a Return to Sports Marketing

In 2000, Speedteq turned its engineering focus to materials science, developing Speedteq-Ti — the world's strongest, lightest titanium fasteners. Its fundamental metallurgical structure became the springboard for a new generation of solutions built to withstand the corrosive environments inside racing engines and coolant systems.

In November 2004, Yamaha Corporation of America awarded Speedteq Sports Marketing a new contract to build one of their premier 250cc racing teams for the Professional Supercross & Motocross series. When the U.S. economic crisis hit later in the decade, Speedteq's team parked its trucks alongside Yamaha's own 450cc team in a show of solidarity as our Japanese partners adopted austerity measures. Once the crisis passed, Speedteq chose not to return to Supercross arenas or outdoor motocross events — instead shifting its full focus toward strengthening its infrastructure and building new technologies.

Around the same time, our earlier Carbon fiber Top Fuel fuel injection designs and NitroCheq Nitromethane/Methanol Analyzers — engineered for the extreme demands of Top Fuel drag racing — proved so effective that variations of them remain in use to this day.

In January 2015, our work in SCORE International Off-Road racing became the catalyst for our latest innovation: Speedteq ArctiFlow, a non-toxic, high-performance antifreeze and coolant technology proven in the brutal conditions of Trophy Truck racing long before it reached a customer's shelf in 2026.

Speedteq Today

Speedteq was founded by Bradley Miller, who continues to serve as Managing Director alongside his 20+ year partner, Speedteq President and NHRA Championship-winning Crew Chief Dan De Gennaro. Together, they carry forward the same hands-on commitment to engineering and performance that started the company back in 1981.
